{"id":802,"date":"2015-09-11T12:13:25","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T17:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bayfieldfallfair.ca\/?p=802"},"modified":"2015-10-12T11:07:54","modified_gmt":"2015-10-12T16:07:54","slug":"warm-days-greeted-the-bayfield-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bayfieldfair.ca\/?p=802","title":{"rendered":"Warm Days Greeted the Bayfield Fair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Memories are all that remain of the 159<sup>th<\/sup> Bayfield Fair held on August 14-16 with its theme \u201cBlue Jeans and Machines\u201d.\u00a0 Increased crowds with many more children entered the grounds of the fair during the three days and warm weather greeted everyone.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The opening with Art Bennett acknowledged the 100 year history of 4-H in Ontario on Friday evening.\u00a0 Richard Fitoussi judged the Ribs Cook off this year and declared The Docks as the overall winner.\u00a0\u00a0 Second place went to the Ashwood Inn and third place ribbon went to the Albion.\u00a0 Many people took part in the golf cart challenge with only one blindfolded driver going off course into the fence.\u00a0 Their able sighted partner must have been misunderstood in their instructions as to where to drive.\u00a0 A steady stream of people took part in the ax and knife throwing and they admired the accuracy of the members who brought the equipment as a demonstration.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The parade had many machines this year from antique tractors to decorated bikes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The Bayfield Agricultural Society President, Jentje Steenbeek, Homecraft President, Jean Dunn, and Seaforth Ambassador, Amber Brodie, enjoyed their luxurious drive along the parade route in a 1952 Packard.\u00a0 There were many white-dressed 4-H exhibitors presenting their skills with their dairy calves or sheep.\u00a0 They keep the 100 year tradition active and alive.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Visitors heard the Commissioners Own Pipes &amp; Drums and the Clinton Pipe Band play following the parade in the fairgrounds.\u00a0 They were entertained by Dick Joiner, a magician, who had the big tent almost filled with spectators.\u00a0 The dog agility show drew people out of the tent to watch several energetic dogs perform.\u00a0 Racing through the obstacle course was a crowd favourite.\u00a0 The dunk tank gathered an enthusiastic following thanks to the volunteering of Reeve Tyler Hessel, radio personality Fadi Didi, and Councillor Bill Whetstone.\u00a0 The three men were good sports about encouraging the markmanship of those willing to try to unseat them as they sat above a tank of cold water.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The exhibits filled the arena.\u00a0 The handcraft section had certainly an increase in exhibits.\u00a0 Quilts and<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Items filled the tables and display behind.\u00a0 There were some exceptional pieces of art shown with sketches being the main art form.\u00a0 Creativity was evident in the children\u2019s work and the woodworking sections.\u00a0 Preserving local food seems to be alive and well if the culinary arts section is any reflection as to what is happening in the area.\u00a0 The Pet Display building was a hive of interest for all ages all days of the fair.\u00a0 Wood carving greeted people at the gates and proved creativity even when carving was done with a chainsaw.\u00a0 In the evening fairgoers had the opportunity to hear the folk styled songs of \u201cTrent Severn\u201d or experience the excellent instrumental skills of \u201cThe Sadies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">On Sunday a community church service was held to give thanks and support a regional organization \u2013the Queen\u2019s Bush Ministry.\u00a0 Parking was a premium for the horse shows.\u00a0 Trailers had to be parked along John Avenue since there was not enough room on the grounds.\u00a0 Miniature horses, heavy horses and Friesians entertained and tried to capture a judge\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The largest midway in a long time provided rides for not just the children.\u00a0 It was reported that several adults liked the rides as well.\u00a0 The midway was a real spectacle during the evening hours with all its coloured lights.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">All who attended the fair take with them their own personal memory of the events.\u00a0 The Directors like to have feedback on what went well, needed to be improved, or things to consider next year.\u00a0 They have provided a way to get input by having people go to the fair website, click on \u201cAbout the Fair\u201d and fill in the form under Feedback.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Memories are all that remain of the 159th Bayfield Fair held on August 14-16 with its theme \u201cBlue Jeans and Machines\u201d.\u00a0 Increased crowds with many more children entered the grounds of the fair during the three days and warm weather greeted everyone.
