If you sing, dance, play an instrument or perform in other ways, and are between the ages of 6 and 21 then the Rise 2 Fame Youth Talent Search is looking for you.

The ONLY Huron County preliminary competition to the Western Fair Talent Search takes place on Friday August 18 at the Bayfield Community Fair, upstairs in the Bayfield Community Centre.  Junior competitions begin first at 7:00 pm with Youth competitions to follow.

Check-in is at 6:00 pm.  This ensures that all registration documents are complete and that music can be lined up for the show.    Be sure to read the rules very carefully online by visiting the website at http://www.westernfairdistrict.com/western-fair/rise-2-fame Registration must be completed online on the Western Fair site before August 7.  There is also another option for an online video submission on the same site.

Winners go on to perform at the Western Fair – a 35 year tradition which has touched the lives of thousands of talented youngsters from across the province. The Western Fair Rise2Fame Youth Talent Search, along with the preliminaries, has been the start to many careers in the arts and continues to encourage young people to pursue their talents, by giving them a chance to perform in front of a live audience.

Remember, Bayfield’s preliminary contest is the only one in Huron County and one of the last before this year’s Western Fair.  Categories of competition are (1) Vocal Solo; (2) Instrumental Solo; (3) Dance Solo; (4) Dance Group; (5) Vocal and/or Instrumental Group including bands; (6) Variety Solo and (7) Variety Group. Individuals can compete more than once in different categories.

Winners of the Bayfield preliminary Rise2Fame contest will perform again at the Western Fair on the Anne Eadie Stage during the first two weeks of September.  At the Western Fair competition there are big cash prizes and trophies for final winners. The top prize includes a trophy and $1,500 in cash!  2015’s Junior Winner at the Western Fair was a Huron County dancer- and that was not the first time that Huron County kids have made it to the finals!

But you can’t win if you don’t enter the preliminary in Bayfield. And Rise2Fame contestants, along with one adult get free admission to the fair. So get registered, bring your dancing shoes, instrument or vocals and come showcase your talent at the Fair!!!!

School is just out and already the Bayfield Agricultural Society is letting everyone know of an educational event taking place on July 15.  The Society is organizing its second Breakfast on the Farm event at 41090 Mill Road, East of Brucefield on a dairy farm.  The hosts Tyler & Emily and Henry & Patti Hendriks welcome everyone to see their 95 milking Jersey cows in a brand new facility. This year the farming operation will feature Jerseys and the barn will highlight a new tunnel construction method for ventilating the space within it.  With any tour of a modern facility, biosecurity risks are a concern so there may be a boot bath needed before entering the barn and no pets are allowed at the farm.

In addition to learning about modern dairy farming, everyone attending will be served a hearty breakfast.  This year the Ag Society is pleased to partner with the Londesborough Lions Club to prepare the meal consisting of sausages, bacon, eggs, pancakes with maple syrup, toast, and milk or coffee.  The meal can be eaten under a tent set up to keep everyone sheltered.  You will be able to eat at the new tables the Ag Society bought recently.

The children will have some activities to keep them amused while their parents take time to visit with neighbours and friends.  There will be some machinery to look over and several organizations will have booths set up to explain what they do to support our agricultural industry in this area.

There will be tickets available at www.bayfieldfair.ca.  Directors will have tickets and they can be obtained by calling 519-440-6639, 519-482-5490, or 519-482-9296.  Extra tickets were made available this year to accommodate more visitors.  A few will be left at the gate but it would be wise to obtain them in advance since the event was sold out in advance of the Breakfast date last year.  Volunteers are always welcome.  If you would like to assist with the event, contact the Society through info@bayfieldfair.ca.

July 15, 2017 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. will be a great opportunity to learn what is behind another barn door in the community.  Start the morning with a hearty breakfast all in our productive countryside.  Support our rural community and the Bayfield Agricultural Society.

On July 9 after the outdoor market leaves Agricultural Park, a group of tin cans will be found near the pavilion and the cattle barn.  These “tin cans” are the affectionately known name for a particular type of vintage house trailers.  The Black Fly Sunset Caravan is on a tour of the Lake Huron shoreline communities and will stop in at Bayfield next Sunday.  They are quite proud of their trailers and welcome anyone to take a look and talk with any of the members.  Once they arrive, they do plan on visiting the main street of Bayfield and the many sites of interest but there will be someone left behind to answer any questions about these portable vacation homes.  If interested in learning more about these motor coaches, try www.tincantourists.com.  This will be a great experience reliving the past in Agricultural Park.

The Bayfield Agricultural Society, for its 161^st fair, is working hard to line up all the activities that create a great weekend for residents of Bayfield, its visitors, and of course the surrounding community.  New entertainment activities keep the fair an event worth coming back to each year.  This year there will be a midway; however, having one is a task that becomes harder every year.  There are fewer operators in the industry and several have reduced the number of rides they carry.  Do enjoy this form of entertainment when it is in your backyard since it may not be there in the next few years.

To celebrate Canada’s 150^th there will be a fireworks display again this year.  This year we cannot guarantee there will be nature’s fireworks and the human created fireworks synchronized to happen at the same time.  In fact we hope that only happens once.  There will be two entertainers appearing around Bayfield on August 19 –Joey The Acrobat Guy and Trulee Odd.  Both live for entertaining and are coming to Bayfield because of a joint effort of the Bayfield Ag Society and Bayfield Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber will be taking both entertainers around Bayfield to perform in several different locations and they will be performing at the fair by the tent.

There will be pigs at the fair this year.  Check out their names and the people who created their names.  They will easier to see after 2:30 on the Saturday of the fair.  The Friesian horses this year will actually have a competition with an obstacle course as one of the categories.  See the many demonstrations of past activities in the arena.
